A Brief Introduction to Jiujiang University
Jiujiang University(JJU) is a state-owned full-time public undergraduate institution of higher education upon the approval of the Ministry of Education of P.R.China. It is located at the foot of Mt. Lushan by the side of the Yangtze River and Poyang Lake in Jiujiang City, a historical and cultural city of Jiangxi Province in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
Jiujiang University is endowed with special intelligence and spirit derived from Jiujiang City, Mt.Lushan, the Yangtze River and Poyang Lake, which are all well-known, and has a unique cultural aura and schooling atmosphere inherited from the famous ancient Lianxi Academy and White Deer Cave Academy, both of which have a history of about one thousand years.
It has 5 campuses, i.e. the Main Campus, Xundong Campus, Lufeng Campus , Nanhu Campus and Balihu Campus, covering an area of nearly 3000 Chinese mu and a floor space of over 1,300,000 square meters. It is one of the Overseas Chinese Education Bases approved by the Overseas Chinese Affairs’ Office of the State Council and has an affiliated hospital.
JJU boasts a qualified faculty of more than 1900 full-time teachers, Including 830-odd associate professors and full professors, 800 of them have master degrees or doctoral degrees, 70 of them are Master degree supervisors. It has 44 academic leaders and young and middle- aged excellent teachers,6 have the title of “distinguished teachers” in Jiangxi Universities. There are 14“the first level and second level candidates in the Provincial Talents Project” and 1 “One of the First Group Academic Leaders” designated by Ministry of Finance . 10 of them enjoy special allowance offered by the State Council and the Provincial Government. In the past three years, the university has also specially invited more than 100 well-known experts as part-time and visiting professors.
The university comprises 21 colleges (or schools) with a enrollment of 38,000 full time students.Disciplines offered in the university cover eleven fields: economics, law, pedagogy, literature, history, science, engineering, agronomy, medicine, management and arts.There are 162 bachelor degree programs and non –degree programs, 10 provincial key programs,12 college key programs, 2 teaching reform experimental national programs, 8 provincial exemplary higher vocational specialties, a post-doctoral scientific research station for “Watershed Management and Ecological Conservation” and an Academician studio in the university. It has established 31 scientific research institutes including Lushan Culture Studies Center, Center for Poyang Lake Eco-economic Studies, Research Center for Areas Along Yangtze River Industry Development, Public Diplomacy Research Center, Center for Medical Education in Rural Areas,Research Institute for Applied Mathematics and Computer Science.
JJU pays special attention to the introduction of the high quality educational resources from abroad, learning from foreign countries for their advanced concept, pattern and mechanism in university running. Up to now,the university has set up stable relations of cooperation and exchange with universities, colleges and research institutes from more than 10 countries such as U.S.A., France, UK, Germany, Cambodia, Thailand and India, and has enrolled nearly 300 overseas students. JJU is actively involved in overseas promotion of Chinese language and culture and with the mutual collaboration and effects, JJU set up both Confucius Institutes at Royal Academy, Cambodia in 2009 and Savannah State University, USA in 2014.

Jiujiang University (JJU) is a comprehensive and residential public university located in Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province of the People’s Republic of China. It is accredited by the Chinese Ministry of Education and enrolls students of diverse backgrounds from almost every province and administrative region of the country. Its history can be traced back to 1901 when it was chartered as Danforth Hospital Nursing School by American Missionaries. Its advantageous location and long history provides JJU with a rich cultural and academic atmosphere.
JJU has four beautiful campuses resting on approximately 200 hectares (500 acres) and includes a building area of 780,000 square meters. The beautiful, green environment of JJU’s campus is perfect for study. Students may study and relax amidst a cool and pleasant atmosphere and the University’s beautiful botanical gardens. The university equipped with modern educational facilities, services and accommodation for students and staff, located against a beautiful background of Lushan Mountain scenery in Jiangxi Province.

International recognition as a centre of excellence
JJU is one of 27 Chinese Language Education bases approved by the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs under the State Council of China. The University enrolls overseas students and has established collaborative relationships universities in several other countries. In particular, JJU attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchange programs with various universities and institutions in Southeast Asia. The University sends exchange students to, and receives exchange students from, Chiang Mai University in Thailand. Each year since 2004 more than 10 JJU graduates have completed Chinese language teaching clerkships at schools in Southeast Asia. JJU has also been actively involved in establishing the Phnom Penh Confucius Institute in Cambodia and has been chosen as the Chinese Partner.

The International Office (IO) facilitates and supports activities and projects at faculty and university levels that promote and enhance academic collaboration with international institutions of higher learning in line with the internationalization strategy of the University to become an internationally recognized centre of excellence. Its functions include communication with overseas institutions, executive support for international negotiations, preparation and dissemination of official documentation in English, overseas travel and visa arrangements for staff, coordination of hospitality and support services for visiting international staff and students, logistic support for international events on campus, and dissemination of information on grants and scholarships for overseas studies and visits by staff and students. Faculty of International Studies （FIS）of Jiujiang University (JJU)
Faculty of International Studies of Jiujiang University (FISofJJU) is an institution in charge of international cooperative programs and international studies. It undertakes such responsibilities as the enrollment, education and management of international students and students from Hongkong, Taiwan and Macao; management of international cooperative programs; and initiating a series of training programs for those having desires to further their studies abroad. With the pleasant teaching environment and first class teaching equipment and facilities of Jiujiang University, FISofJJU is dedicated to establishing cooperative relations with the overseas higher education institutions.
Graduates of JJU may further their postgraduate study at Université de Poitiers in France after 6-10 months French training and bridge courses study in JJU.
The program provides an opportunity for high school graduates to acquire quality overseas teaching resources domestically, and enables the students and their parents to save expensive costs. NCC Education is a global provider for this program. The duration of the program is normally 3 years, i.e. 1 year of foundation courses plus 2 years of academic courses. Thereafter, qualified students can choose over 50 UK institutions of higher learning or those of other countries, namely, US, Australia, Malaysia, etc, to further their education. The first two joint educational programs are Computing and Business Management.
Chinese Language, International
Chinese Language, International Program imparts knowledge and skills of Chinese systematically to non-Chinese speakers and emphasizes their third language (English or Japanese) learning. This program aims at bringing up qualified multilingual talents with strong contemporary Chinese society and culture background to meet the needs of international labor market.
JJU is recognized by the Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of China and the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Directory of World Medical Schools. Foreign students can apply to Chinese or English taught MBBS programs in JJU. MBBS in China (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery), is becoming popular for international students. Although the medium of instruction is English, the students will still need to study Chinese language in order to communicate with the patients in the clinics.
Jiujiang Chinese Language Education Center
Jiujiang Chinese Language Education Centre was established in April of 2000. The Centre is one of the first twenty-two centers approved by the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs under the State Council of China. The Centre has sent more than forty Chinese teachers and students to Cambodia, Thailand, and the Philippines to help the Chinese Educational Institutes of these countries with Chinese teaching and training teachers of Chinese. Since 2005 the center has been conducting training courses for overseas Chinese teachers from around the world.
CMB (Chinese Medical Board) in United States of America has given grants to JJU since 1988. The aid has been extended to more than ten projects designed to further improve and enhance the medical education at JJU Medical Center, totaling a value of more than two million US dollars.
Friendly Association between Jiujiang and Yamatotakada Japan
The Friendly Association between Yamatotakada, Japan and JJU was initiated in 1994. Educational visits between the two cities have been conducted frequently since the first visit of Japanese students in August 1988. The Friendly Association between Jiujiang and Yamatotakada was founded in 2001 at JJU.
Students majoring in English in the Faculty of Foreign Languages of JJU are selected each year as exchange students to study in the Faculty of Humanities at Chiang Mai University.
More than 10 graduates of JJU have been selected to conduct clerkships at schools in southeast Asia every year since 2004.

Application and Admission Procedures for International Students
1) Application Materials:
A. A completed Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in JJU or Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study Chinese Language in JJU, which can be obtained by letter, telephone or fax from the International Office of JJU.
B. Copies of passport, schooling certificates and transcripts with translations into Chinese or English.
C. A notarized photocopy of the Physical Examination Record is required, which complies with "The Standards of Health for Overseas Students in China". Students are also required to present the original paper and report of blood tests on arrival in JJU. The validity of the examination record is 6 months.
D. 350 Yuan RMB application fee is required for each candidate.
2) Time for Application:
Application should be made at least one month in advance. Spring enrollment and fall enrollment will be in March and September respectively.
3) Academic Evaluation for Admission:
A. The communicating language for Senior Advanced students and Research Scholars is Chinese or English.
B. The school’s teaching language for undergraduates is Chinese or English. Applicants must gain the certificate of HSK level C.
C. If the applicant cannot satisfy the above requirement, he or she will be accepted as a Conditional Admission Student in light of specific conditions. The Conditional Admission period is one year. One year later, if he passes the examination, he will be turned to a registered student; if not, he will leave school with a certificate as a School Study Student.
4) Admissions and Visa:
Admission decisions are made after all the application materials are processed and assessed by International Office of JJU in terms of whether all required papers are submitted and whether applicants have met the academic requirements. After being approved by the relevant departments of the Jiangxi People's Provincial Government, the admitted students or their references will receive the Admission Notice issued by the University and JW202 Form issued by the provincial government, by which an (X) Visa (study) to China can be applied for with a Chinese embassy or consulate.
Specific dates for registration in the spring enrollment and fall enrollment will be presented in the Admission Notice. At registration, new students are expected to pay the tuition and other fees, and present passports, Admission Notice, the original Physical Examination Record and six passport photos. Admission will be cancelled if the student has made no report to the International Office of JJU

9) Short-term courses
To meet the growing demands of international students who intend to study the Chinese language, culture, customs and traditions, JJU offers various short-term courses. Foreign universities and organizations are welcome to contact the International Office for advice about organizing and sending international students to study the short-term courses in the university.
Chinese Language: In accordance with the international students' Chinese proficiency levels, elementary, intermediate and advanced courses are offered with different teaching materials and methodologies. 20 hours of morning classes from Monday to Friday; Review, preview and Taijiquan arts lessons are given in the afternoons. At weekends, there will be visits to downtown areas, lectures on the history and culture of Jiujiang, and leisure activities such as cinemas, theatres and performances given by different traditional artists.
National Conditional Chinese History and Culture: Lectures on A Brief Introduction to China, traditional Chinese culture and customs, visits to factories, farms, residential areas, historical sites will be organized in coordinating with the contents of the courses. Classes on Chinese painting and calligraphy, traditional Chinese folk music, Wushu (Chinese Kungfu), Chinese Cooking, Confucianism and Taoism can be offered, too. Lessons are conducted in Chinese or with interpretation
Chinese Legal System, Investment and Business Practice in China: Focuses on foreign investments in China and foreign trade activities while concentrating on the constitution civil law, economic law and special regulations for joint ventures. Lectures are integrated with classroom discussions, seminars with lawyers and foreign trade officials, visits to lawyer offices, hearing in the courtroom, etc. Lessons are conducted in Chinese or with interpretation.
Requirements: healthy, under 60 years of age, students, teachers and staff with an academic record of a senior high school, or high school students with a good academic record.
Notes: The courses last for 2-16 weeks. Courses can begin at any time of the year. Students can decide when to begin and end a course. Special arrangements concerning the majors, length of courses and the dates for admissions can be arranged through negotiation between the foreign organizers and the International Office of JJU.
JJU employs from twenty to thirty foreign teachers each year.
To facilitate the expansion of the University's connections with the global academic and educational community, the university is in need of native Language speakers to teach the foreign language courses, medical courses, and other related courses.
Service of foreign teachers is based on a working contract. A one-year (one-academic-year) working contract consists of two semesters. The Spring Semester usually starts in March, and ends in early July, the Fall Semester starts at the beginning of September, and ends in middle January.
Candidates need to be native speakers, and preferred main qualifications include:
Bachelor's degree or above
Solid teaching experience
Good interpersonal communication skills
Not older than 60 years with good health.
